Mad People
The term 'mad' has a number of different meanings when it is applied to people. Probably the two most common meanings,
when describing mad people, is to suggest that that person is mentally ill, or that someone is angry. But there are other
uses for the word. For instance people sometimes say that someone was mad for doing something, implying that they were
foolish to do it. It is even used to describe someone as simply being enthusiastic or out going.

People will often say that a certain thing makes them mad but rather than meaning that it makes them really angry they usually mean that they find it irritating and can even find some humour in it. In fact the funny things that make people mad are the basis for a popular comedy television series in the UK called Room 101. Celebrities are invited to discuss their pet hates with the host in order to have them wiped from existence and consigned to Room 101.

He has the trademark stereotypical mannerism of mad people of using gibberish when excited, and he's often excited. For example, when a meteor is approaching Springfield he exclaims, "That meteor is headed straight for us! With the fire, and the impact, and the hundred percent chance of PAIN! PAIN IN THE GLAVIN!"

Another of the cartoon mad people in The Simpsons is Eleanor Abernathy, known as the Crazy Cat Lady. Eleanor is a woman who has the appearance and behavior of a stereotypical mentally ill person. She is always surrounded by (and sometimes wears) a large number of cats. In nearly every appearance, she either screams gibberish or throws cats at passersby, with little provocation in either case.
